LENDING MONEY
Most of my demographic are Filipinos so when I say that I am part Chinese and of European descent, it would not be that shocking since China has a huge influence over the country and that Spanish people ruled over the country for 300 years; anyways, this post is about money, and being part Chinese I've been raised to be wary and aware of my financial stability-this is the reason why I hate people who always complain that they have no money despite the fact that their parents are giving them allowances they just don't take care of it very well.
This post is about the time I lend my brother 1000 php ($20) and how he struggled to pay me. I want to write a rant post about how kids my age don't take care of their money that well, but that will be another post in the future.
Early March 2017, my brother told me that he is getting tired of walking every day to school and going home from school, he told me that he's been saving money for something. I thought that "something" is for a new cellphone, or a new game, but it turns out he was saving money to pay for his ACP uniform (ACP stands for Aerospace Cadets of the Philippines and most high schools require students to undertake mild air force training as part of their graduation requirement), I asked him where did the money my father gave him for his uniform went and he told me he lost it back in July. This angered me. If he lost the money to pay for his ACP uniform back in July, how come he didn't even bother saving up money to pay for it, but being the older brother I told him that I'll lend him some money and that I'll lend him 500 php ($10).
I told my mother about my brother's situation and my mother got angry, everything I wrote above is basically what my mother said although more "imaginative". Even though my mother is angry, she told my brother that she'll lend him 500 php as well to avoid my father from knowing. This all happened in the first week of March. On the second week of March (he had to pay for his ACP uniform on the third week) he told me that he had to borrow 1000 php from me, and I got furious at that time. What the hell was he doing with his allowance? My father gives him 100 php ($2) every day and where do all his money goes to, now I have to pitch in more money than he has to, but again, being afraid that my dad will have a heart attack if I told him I said yes.
The uniform was only 1700 php ($33.43), and he only paid $3.43 for it. Thinking about it now, it makes my blood boil that I had to pay for something I didn't get something out of, and to a person who has done nothing but annoy, bully, and tease me throughout my whole life.
You would think that my brother gave me back the $20 that easily, but no, this story gets more infuriating. Turns out, my mom didn't demand my brother to pay him the $10 and this gets me angry because when I ask my mom for some money she always tells me that she has no money and I have some (well, this is true, but still...), and my brother paid the $20 two months after. The part that gets me the most is that my brother was typical "I borrowed some money but I have to right to get angry when the lender asks me for it" attitude, he gets angry when I ask him for it, and he was never thankful that I even lend him some. Side story: our grandfather gave us both $10 and so did our grandmother, but instead of paying it to me directly, he used it to play the arcade, the ARCADE!! THE FUCK!?!? Who does that when they know that they are being closely monitored by someone else! When you see your teacher is looking at you while you are having a test, do you still look at your classmate's test paper? No. So why does he think that it's okay for him to spend $20 when I'm asking him to pay me $20?
Well, he managed to pay the $20 by the end of June, but instead of paying it back as a whole, he only paid me 800 php ($15.74) and the rest is paid by manual labor like washing the dishes (which is not a good way to be paid).
There you go, this is the time I first lend someone money. I'll probably won't lend anyone money again except my parents, but that's because they are the source of where I get the money.
